The Society’s final fundraising event was held to raise money for a permanent Donors Board, or Commemorative Plaque. This is a small way to say thanks to the many people who have helped save the Forest. The Donor Board, or Plaque, will reside at Town Hall until someday we have an Interpretive Centre in the Forest. The Plaque does not mention the amount of the donation; it merely lists the names, in alphabetical order, of all those donors who gave over $500.

Thousands gave all they could afford and the Society appreciates their thoughtfulness. These donations amounted to a big proportion of the total amount raised. Some were able to give more; the categories and number of the larger contributors are as follows:

$500 -$999 - 141
$1,000 - $1,999 78
$2,000 - $4,999 40
$5,000 - $9,999 17
$10,000 & up 12

To raise the money required to say thanks to all of the donors the Society raffled off a kayak that was kindly donated. The kick off of ticket sales began on May 14th, 2005 at Qualicum Beach’s Fire and Ice Festival. Members sold tickets at various functions for the next 3 months.

On August 15th, 2005 a winner was drawn on the air at our local radio station. The winner was a resident of Qualicum Beach. A total of $2,200 was raised.

The BPPS must remain a strong and active Society ready to assist the Council and Heritage Commission in maintaining a healthy and vigorous forest. We must continue to be an active Society in order to assist the Land Conservancy in the protection of our forest. An active membership is needed if we are to act as the eyes and ears of the Covenant Holders. Members of the BPPS are no longer ‘Providers’, but have become ‘Protectors’ of the Heritage Forest.

We hope you enjoyed your tour through this website. Please check up on your ‘Forest’ often.
